The R10 Raised Pavement Marker Skipper is specifically intended for snow belt stripers where cast iron snowplowable reflectors are embedded in the pavement.  The R10 senses the cast iron base, then momentarily interrupts the gun solenoid current to shut the paint gun off as it passes over the reflector. It is not necessary to interrupt the bead guns. This system will not sense reflectors other than cast iron.

Key Features:

Low frequency induction balance system ignores rebars, remesh, and foil-backed temporary tape.

Works with all 12 volt skipline controls.

Water and solvent resistant sensor head.

Simple installation, easy set-up and calibration.

Standard sensor head cable length is 15 feet, additional length available at small additional cost.

Two sensor head styles are available, 12 inches and 18 inches wide. Both styles are 8 inches from front to rear and 4 inches high overall.

Specifications:

Power: Requires 11-18 volts DC, negative ground, at 2 amperes. Protected against reversed polarity and voltage spikes. Note that the internal circuitry of the R10 is grounded to the cabinet, and erroneously connecting the hot power wire to the R10 ground terminal WILL cause damage.

Inputs:  Four high-side controller lines used with skip timers that switch the high-side of the solenoids.

Outputs:  Four high-side switches, 2 amperes each. Transistors are protected from solenoid kick-back spikes.

Controls: The 'BALANCE' adjustment allows the sensitivity of the sensor head to be adjusted to compensate for varying carriage positions. The 'WAIT' adjustment compensates for the distance from the sensor head to the paint gun, and for the delays inherent in the gun and solenoid valves. The 'SKIP' sets the time that the gun is off, to make sure that the reflector doesn't get painted, but with a minimum of interruption.  The 'SPEED' control makes fine adjustments to the 'WAIT' to compensate for changes in vehicle speed.  An ON-OFF switch bypasses the skip function, for instance on overpasses and steel bridge decks where unusually heavy steel concentrations might cause extra skips.

Indicators: The R10 has three light-emitting diodes (LEDs) on the panel, one to indicate that an RPM has been detected, one to indicate that the control is "waiting" and one to indicate that it is "skipping".

Sensor Head Road Clearance:  The R10 sensor head has a shallow sensing field so it won't "see" rebars and remesh in the pavement. For this reason, the sensor head must be mounted on the gun carriage where it will always be between 2 inches and 4 inches from the pavement.

Distance between Sensor Head and Paint Guns:  Make this as long as you can to allow the guns time to shut off before they reach the reflector. Generally at least one foot is needed, but for high speed trucks, even more distance may be necessary. Keep control hoses as short as possible.

The R10 electronics cabinet is a NEMA 4 water-resistant enclosure with rubber gasket seal. Finish is gray epoxy enamel. The controls are sealed for rain-tight protection.
